Jul 29, 2010George Clifford
Cowes Week and the first day’s racing of 2010 begins! No finer start could there be than last Sunday, with the Panerai British Classic Yacht Club Regatta, now in its ninth year, bringing together 52 of some of the most beautiful vintage sailing craft and their crews for a full week of racing!
Sponsored by Italian watch manufacturer, Panerai, since 2005, the event is also a rare opportunity for classic boat enthusiasts to get together and enjoy the spectacle and elegance of these truly magnificent sailing vessels from a bygone era, once again, going through their paces.
To be eligible to join the British Classic Yacht Club, a boat’s hull material must only be made of wood, steel or iron and usually the build date has to be before 1970.
Dream Marine do have a classic boat represented at the club, with their latest portfolio addition, Drumbeat, a key yacht in British ocean racing history, which was first built in 1957.
Since then, the 42 foot long craft has been totally transformed into a luxury cruising yacht by, including, hydraulic steering, electric winches and a complete refurb of the interior into one of the largest modern sailing yachts ever built.
Saturday sees the 184th Cowes Week begin in earnest, preceded by the Skippers Briefing taking place at Shepards Wharf Marina on Friday, so looking forward to catching up with a few old sea dogs!
