UK Border Agency Relax Sailing Rules

Red tape news! Always good to hear that some rules can be relaxed when it’s obvious they surely need to be! The only paperwork I like when it comes to sailing is the Captain’s Log!

After some pressure, I understand, the UK Border Agency has now agreed to revise its procedures which were considered impractical when applying to yachts sailing from the UK to outside the EU, and including trips to the Channel Islands.

They now will allow 'pleasure craft on non-EU voyages' to depart and begin cruising on condition only that the C1331 form has been sent to Customs prior to departure rather than the sailing having to wait until the paperwork had been received.

Cowes Week nearly upon us, and looking forward to see some great racing.

If she’s not now gliding across the Eastern USA, I believe Ravenous ( an Oyster 82 ) may be around - and Matelot ( winner of the ARC 2007 from Gran Canaria to St Lucia) - both beautifully crafted and crewed custom stock just under 100 foot.

I know that Ravenous is headed for the Caribbean during the Winter and Matelot likewise, often chartering to places like Fiji, Barbados, Bahamas, Antigua and Tahiti, but I guess Melacina might have tale or two to tell on this!
