Well I値l Oil Be! Not So Slick Sailing!

Not quite sure about last week’s unexpected press coverage given to BP ‘Oil Spill’ Boss Tony Hayward, spotted taking his £ 182,000 Farr 52 sailing yacht, ‘Bob’, round the Isle of Wight in the JP Morgan Asset Management Race

Not only was it not good PR for him, it could cast bad light on the sailing fraternity in general, I would say. After all, not all of us head out on the ocean wave claiming to ‘get our lives back’, as Hayward was quoted as saying, when it was seen more as a further instance of ducking of responsibility. We actually like to sail our yachts on the water, feel the wind in the sails, engage with the sea, work with the ropes ....

When it comes to yachts in the 50 ft plus range, there’s some great sailing to be enjoyed at this time of the year in more exotic Mediterranean and Caribbean waters!

A superb example of a vessel often seen in faraway ports has to be Matelot, also designed by Farr, and built in 2005, she not only won first prize in the Millennium Yacht Design Award in 2007 for 80 ft sailing yachts with 'the quality of build and design suitability for long distance cruising', but also line honours in the ARC 2007 from Gran Canaria to St Lucia, finishing first out of 225 yachts.

A great way to ‘get you life back’, I would say!
